The Coalition for Sign Language Equity in Technology (CoSET)’s mission is to protect the integrity of communication and ensure the accessibility of understanding when languages are mediated by technology and human interpreters.

S.A.F.E. stands for Safe, Accountable, Fair, and Ethical.

The idea of a “Deaf Think Tank,” or, a think tank for and from the perspective of sign language communities, comes from Tim Riker. We’ve been working together since 2023 to create a volunteer organization representing the Deaf perspective on using artificial intelligence for live interpreting. Early on we partnered with the Interpreting SAFE AI Task Force, and have produced several presentations and publications both with them and on our own.

Steph’s role is facilitating cooperation and alignment between spoken and signed language interpreting professionals and language access advocates.
